INTENT healthcare provides Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) specialty services in underserved areas of the world.
INTENT brings high level expertise and a wide range of ENT services to assist local providers increase and sustain the scope of ENT specialty surgeries for the future of served communities.
Vision
We serve to meet the challenges required to provide the ENT needs for the economically poor and underserved, contributing to the improvement of quality of life.
We provide services regardless of age, race, sexual identity, national origin, religion or spiritual beliefs.
Core values and guiding principles
Serving people in need of basic necessities is a humanitarian obligation of the fortunate who have had these needs met and have the resources to help.
ENT surgical services are not readily available in many parts of the world due to a regional lack of providers for this care. Further, more complex procedures are not available due to a local lack of experience or training.
We recognize that although specialty providers coming and performing surgeries provides a short-term benefit, the greater good is in educating and training local providers to perform basic and more advanced surgical services.
INTENT will work with local ENT providers in rural areas to provide assistance and training to increase the scope of ENT services. We will work with regional residency training programs to assist with on-going support and consultative services to help sustain the newly elevated levels of care in the rural areas for the future.
As we work with local ENT providers, we will target individuals who cannot access needed care due to inability to afford the cost of these services. Our services will be offered within cost parameters set by the host organization, with no monies paid to INTENT for its participation.
We will collaborate with local organizations or individuals currently engaged in delivering healthcare to the region, in order to work efficiently and be respectful of established systems and region’s norms.
Following our involvement in a region, our progress will be measured by:
-
The number and types of ENT surgical services newly provided during the following year
-
The number of ENTs in the area afforded additional training
-
Liaisons created between practicing ENTs and Medical school residency training programs
-
The number of patients rendered surgical care.
We will respect the use of donated funds by minimizing overhead costs and be limited to maintenance of a website and obligatory insurance.
Donated funds will primarily be used for:
-
Support transport and lodging of INTENT participants for the duration of the work
-
Purchase of medications and equipment for administration of anesthesia and performing surgeries, and post-operative care.
Updates on INTENT activity and performance data will be made on a timely basis.
